Jack's wine
In this story you have four entities:
- Jack
- Wine
- Ubuntu
- Jack's Swine
The last one is obvious so I won't talk about it.
So we begin with jack. what is jack? I have no idea. It's some kind of an audio library for linux, built upon ALSA if I'm not wrong. They seem to work well together so... dunno. What really jack is is some kind of module (or driver for you windows people) which give an API (application programming interface) for programmers to talk to the soundcard in an efficient way. That's not so complicated isn't it?
Now to one of my favourite open-source projects of all time, wine! Wine means that people like you and me go to msdn.microsoft.com and implement the same horrible and slow API that microsoft provides, and give linux the power to use it! This means that you can play amazing games like starcraft on linux.
Ubuntu is the best operating system on the planet. Just don't even bother arguing me about this - I am the current Ubuntu Israel's Team Contact so I represent the whole Israeli Ubuntu community (which is rather big).
So why the f**k should we care?
The current Ubuntu, Ubuntu Hardy, comes with jack already built into itself. It's very exciting because I can play native-instrument's tools on my linux and it means jack is amazing. Period. link to picture
